Kuwait on Tuesday reiterated its "solid and unwavering" support to the Moroccan Sahara autonomy initiative as a resolution to the region's dispute amid its non-permanent Security Council membership status.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah made the comments as he sat down for joint supreme committee talks with Morocco's Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Nasser Bourita. The two sides signed some 58 agreements and memorandums of understanding covering various cooperation aspects as well as six documents, including working programmes. The ninth session of the discussions were held amid several regional and international challenges, which were a "cause for deep discussion, characterised by a unified vision and approach," said Kuwait's top diplomat. As part of commitments made by Gulf Cooperation Council bloc member nations, Kuwait provided Rabat with assistance worth USD 1.25 billion, which were completed in December 2017.
