Nigerien Delegate Minister for African Integration and Nigeriens Living Abroad, Bala Goga Salamatou, has congratulated Morocco on the success of the African Ministerial Conference on the support of the African Union to the United Nations political process on the regional dispute over the Moroccan Sahara, which was held Monday in Marrakech with the participation of 37 African countries from the five sub-regions of the continent.


In a statement to the press following her talks with the Moroccan minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Nasser Bourita, the Nigerien official affirmed her country's support for the exclusive role of the United Nations as a consensual framework for the final settlement of the dispute over the Moroccan Sahara.

She also welcomed the excellent relations between Morocco and Niger in several areas. Bala Goga Salamatou took part Monday in Marrakech in the African Ministerial Conference on the support of the African Union to the United Nations political process on the regional dispute over the Moroccan Sahara. 

The African countries which took part in the meeting have agreed to implement the "wise and concerted vision" of the heads of State and government, enshrined at the 31st AU Summit held in July 2018 in Nouakchott, which reaffirms the exclusivity of the UN in seeking a political solution to this issue.

In the Final Declaration at the end of this conference, the representatives of the 37 countries present warmly commended the constructive initiative of the Kingdom of Morocco to convene this conference, which demonstrates its commitment to the implementation of Decision 693 adopted at the 31st AU Summit in Nouakchott, as well as the unanimous adoption of this Decision on the report of the chairperson of the AU Commission regarding the Sahara issue that reaffirms the exclusivity of the United Nations as a framework leading to a political, mutually acceptable, realistic, pragmatic and lasting solution to the Sahara issue.
