Saudi Arabia reiterated on Monday before the 4th Committee of the United Nations General Assembly its rejection of any act that undermines the supreme interests, the sovereignty and the territorial integrity of Morocco.


Speaking before the members of the 4th Committee, Ambassador Abdullah Bin Yahya Al-Moalimi, Saudi Arabia's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, said that Morocco has contributed, seriously and in good faith, to the process led under the UN exclusive auspices to reach a lasting solution to the conflict over the Moroccan Sahara.


He also reiterated the principled position of his country in support of the Moroccan autonomy initiative in the Sahara and which represents a proposal that can lead to a realistic solution to this conflict.


He affirmed, in this regard, that the Moroccan autonomy initiative is a consensual solution in accordance with the international legality, the Charter of the United Nations and the resolutions of the Security Council and the General Assembly, while responding to the right to self-determination.


The Saudi diplomat also welcomed the efforts made by Morocco to achieve economic and social development in the Sahara region, the concrete achievements of the Kingdom in the area of human rights, its cooperation with the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights and its positive interaction with the special procedures of the Human Rights Council.


The ambassador called on all the concerned parties to give priority to dialogue and cooperation in order to reach a negotiated political solution to the conflict.
