Through its model of development for the Sahara, Morocco has undertaken colossal efforts to promote its Southern Provinces so that they accompany the momentum of generalized development of the Kingdom, said former Peruvian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Luis Gonzalez Posada.

In a statement to MAP, Mr Posada, also former President of the Peruvian Congress, stressed that the mobilization of about US $ 7 billion for development projects in the southern provinces of the Kingdom reflects the colossal efforts undertaken by Morocco, which does not have natural resources such as oil or gas, to further promote these provinces that are currently living in a new era of development and prosperity.

These investments are crucial to the success of socio-economic policies and integration policy, the main steps in the development of education, science and culture, in particular in the field of human rights, he said.

Morocco is one of the few countries not to have been impacted by the disturbances and acts of violence that have shaken several countries in the region because the Kingdom, according to Mr Posada, has been able to undertake constitutional reforms in time.

The former Minister of Justice of Peru hailed the important constitutional reforms undertaken by the Kingdom under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, highlighting the Sovereign's efforts to strengthen the cooperation relations between Morocco and the Countries of Latin America.

Responding to the discussion at the UN headquarters on Tuesday on the financing of Sustainable Development Goals, Mr Posada welcomed the position expressed by the Ambassador, Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Morocco to the United Nations, Omar Hilale, on the situation in Venezuela.

"This is, without any exaggeration, a historic step because it is the first time that an African country expresses its position regarding a Latin American dictatorship flouting human rights and throwing young protesters into jails, "he said.

He added that "the Venezuelan government is committing social genocide and leading the country to poverty and misery with inflation rates too high, in addition to the high percentage of homicides due to violence and scarcity of food "in such circumstances, President Nicolas Maduro has militarized the country and has rejected any call for local elections, thus provoking a strong internal and external condemnation".

Mr Hilale lamented during a discussion at the UN headquarters on the financing of SDOs that Venezuela, the richest country in South America, leads its population to misery because of the capture of its wealth by chavist dictatorial oligarchy.
