The Council’s chairman, in a speech during the public meeting in concluding this session, said that final touches were made on the project of autonomy proposal for the southern provinces, which will be submitted to His Majesty the King. 

At the conclusion of this meeting, a message of loyalty and gratitude was read out to His Majesty King Mohammed VI by the President of the Royal Advisory Council for Saharan Affairs on behalf of the Council’s
members.
 
The members of the Council worked through this session, which took place over two days in closed sessions, on the study of an autonomy proposal for the southern provinces of the Kingdom, announced by His Majesty King Mohammed VI at the throne speech in 2005, as well as the final touches brought to it to find a final political solution to the conflict.

The chairman of the Royal Advisory Council for Saharan Affairs will hold on Wednesday a press conference in Rabat. The first meeting of the special session of the Royal Advisory Council for Saharan Affairs was held in Rabat, during 25-27 May after the last restructuring of the Council.

It is worth mentioning that the setting up of the Council falls within the framework of activating the announcement by His Majesty the King at the throne speech of 2005, as well as the speech by His Majesty the King to mark the thirtieth anniversary of the Green March. The Council has three core functions which are to defend the Moroccan Sahara, contribute to the economic and social development of the southern regions and maintain its own cultural identity within the rich multi-facetted unified national identity.
