Secretary General of the Royal Advisory Council for Sahrawi Affairs (CORCAS), Maouelainin Ben Khalihanna Maouelainin, announced that the Council will hold on May 25 an extraordinary session under instructions of king Mohammed VI.

The session, he told MAP, will examine setting up commissions, as stipulated by the Council's regulations, as well as the autonomy project of the southern provinces (known as the Sahara).

In a speech the king addressed past March from Laayoune, he announced the establishment of the new council to contribute to defending Morocco's territorial integrity and to shed light on the national cause and the efforts made by Morocco.

By virtue of the prerogatives granted to CORCAS, set up by king Mohammed VI on March 25, 2006 in Laayoune and composed of legitimate representatives of the Sahrawi society, the Council "is the only interlocutor and representative of all the Sahrawis living in the Sahara territories, that is two-thirds of the Sahrawi population," had said CORCAS president, Khali Henna Ould Er-rachid.
