Foreign Activities

The Royal Advisory Council for Saharan Affairs (Corcas) is taking part, within the official delegation of the Kingdom of Morocco, in the 56th session of the Human Rights Council (CDH) which was held from June 18, 2024 to July 12, 2024.

At this session, Corcas is represented by Moulay Ahmed Mghizlate and Saadani Maoulainine, members of the Council.
During this session the HRC will examine the reports of the Working Group on the Universal Periodic Review concerning the human rights situation in several countries.

Other documents on the agenda of this session include the annual report of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights which provides an overview of the activities and work carried out by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) between July 1, 2023 and March 1, 2024.

This annual report concerns a period which is characterized by a particularly degraded situation for those detained in the Tindouf camps in Algeria, who for months have suffered systematic repression of any demonstration against the unbearable living conditions in these camps, conditions of permanent insecurity, the most serious case of which was the bombing by the Algerian army of civilian groups trying to prospect for mines in the Algerian desert.

This report should be read in conjunction with the report of the High Commissioner to the General Assembly, which reports on the activities carried out by OHCHR from January 1 to June 30, 2023.

This session will also be marked by the presentation of the Report of the Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, and Israel.

Trafficking in human beings, mixed migratory movements and protection at sea will also be the subject of a report by the Special Rapporteur on trafficking in human beings, particularly women and children.

In total the Council will examine nearly a hundred reports presented by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, human rights experts and other investigative bodies concerning a wide range of themes which ranges from the human rights situation in several countries to the problem of racism, including the situation of civilians in regions where armed conflicts are taking place.
