The Chairman of the Royal Advisory Council for Saharan Affairs, Mr. Khalihenna Ould Errachid, received on Wednesday at the Council's headquarters in Rabat a significant delegation from the Andean Parliament, led by Parliament Speaker Gustavo Pacheco.

During this meeting, which was attended by the Council's Secretary-General, Dr. Maoulainain Ben Khlihenna Maoulainin, and CORCAS member Moulay Ahmed Maghizlat, Mr. Khalihenna briefed his guests on the latest developments in the Sahara issue.

CORCAS head emphasized the importance of the Moroccan solution to resolving this conflict, in terms of granting broad autonomy to the Moroccan Sahara region, and in terms of its formulation by Sahrawis themselves, represented by the Royal Advisory Council for Saharan Affairs. He emphasized that the Kingdom of Morocco, by bringing it to the attention of the United Nations in 2007, had thus presented a courageous and just initiative that would break the stalemate witnessed by the Sahara issue since the ceasefire in 1991.

Mr. Khalihenna pointed to the momentum of recent years, as the Moroccan initiative, which currently enjoys near-unanimous support from the international community, has generated a strong wave of positive responses from UN member states, with a large number recognizing the Moroccan Sahara and others opening consulates in the cities of Laayoune and Dakhla.

The talks between CORCAS chairman and the speaker of the Andean Parliament and his accompanying delegation followed the works of the thematic committees of the Andean Parliament, which primarily covered political, economic, and institutional affairs. The discussions took place in the Councilors' Chamber, followed by a plenary session devoted to examining the reports of the standing committees and debating various draft texts.

It is worth noting that the Moroccan Parliament and the Andean Parliament signed a Memorandum of Understanding in July 2018 at the Councilors' Chamber of Deputies, aiming to establish channels of parliamentary communication and interaction through the exchange of visits, expertise, information, and documents. Under this memorandum, the Moroccan Parliament enjoys advanced partner status with this parliamentary organization.

The Andean Parliament is a parliamentary organization in Latin America, established in 1979 with the aim of unifying legislation and accelerating integration among the member countries of this group, consisting of Bolivia, Chile, Ecuador, Colombia, and Peru.
