The chairman of the Royal Advisory Council for Saharan Affairs (CORCAS), Mr. Khalihenna Ould Errachid, received at the Council headquarters Wednesday, April 8, 2015, Gilles Pargneaux, Chairman of the EU-Morocco friendship group at the European Parliament heading senior delegation of MEPs.

At the meeting, attended by the Counci’s Secretary General, Dr. Ben Maouelainin Khallihenna Maouelainin, chairman made a presentation on the historical context that gave birth to the Sahara conflict during the Cold War.

It also discussed the UN role in the settlement of the conflict based on autonomy proposal submitted by Morocco in 2007 as a fair solution based on consensus, dialogue and promotion of peace.

During this interview, Mr. Khalihenna and his guests exchanged views on the latest developments in the conflict, especially after the publication of the report of the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF), which shed light on the excesses of embezzlement of international humanitarian aid in Tindouf camps.

Embezzlement of humanitarian aid had already been denounced by Corcas chairman including letters that Mr. Khalihenna, had already sent in 2007 to High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the World Food Programme (WFP).

The two sides also discussed terrorist threats posed by AQIM in the Sahel and the Sahara which requires the mobilization of all parties for a mutually acceptable political solution to the Sahara issue.

The delegation led by Mr Pargneaux which includes MEPs from all political groups in the European Parliament is visiting Morocco until April 10. During the visit, MEPs will travel to Laayoune in the southern provinces.

Members of the European parliamentary mission reiterated the effort and commitment by Morocco on the path to democracy, rule of rights and respect for human rights.
