Khalihenna Ould Errachid, Chairman of the Royal Advisory Council for Saharan Affairs (CORCAS), received Tuesday afternoon at the headquarters of the council in Rabat, a delegation of young leaders from Europe and North America, visiting Morocco as part of a cultural exchange program under the auspices of the civilizations Alliance within the United Nations.


The meeting, which was attended by Dr. Maouelainin Ben Khallihenna Maouelainin, Secretary General and Moulay Ahmed Mghizlate, Corcas member, focused on the role of youth in deepening mutual understanding between the West Europe and America and the countries of Africa, especially the Maghreb countries currently experiencing significant challenges in relation to political tensions and proliferation of extremism and terrorism, in particular with the presence of the Polisario separatist movement in the south of Algeria on the border with the Sahel and Sahara region.

Khalihenna Ould Errachid explained in this context the genesis of the Sahara conflict, that nourished regional and international polarization during the period of the Cold War between the West and East, the role of the UN in the settlement of the conflict on the basis of autonomy project that Morocco submitted as a civilized and fair solution in 2007 which is based on consensus, dialogue and promoting peace.

This visit comes in the context of a series of meetings of the delegation of young European and American leaders between 15 and 19 December, with Moroccan officials as well as representatives of the media and civil society academics, religious leaders in order to know the political, religious, social and cultural rights and to strengthen dialogue and cooperation, supported by the objectives of the Alliance of Civilizations.

It should also be noted that the visit of the delegation of young European and American leaders is part of a visit programs in other Arab countries including Tunisia, Qatar and Morocco, in view of the cultural heritage of these countries and their cultural diversity.
