The Chairman of the Royal Advisory Council for Saharan Affairs (CORCAS), received yesterday, a high-level delegation of the "Forum of Presidents of Legislative Powers of Central America and the Caribbean", part of an official visit crowned by the accession of Morocco to the Forum as observer member.


During the meeting, the Chairman discussed with the delegation led by the Chairman of the Forum, Mr. Henry Mora Jimenez, the genesis of the Sahara conflict and its development in an era of polarization between East and West, which took place following the decisive developments in the 90s, until the last decade, when in fact Morocco submitted to the United Nations a solution to end the conflict and grant autonomy to the Sahara region.

Khalihenna also spoke at the meeting, attended by Secretary General Maouelainin Khallihenna Maouelainin and Vice-Chairman Khaddad Elmoussaoui, relations with Latin American countries and their position regarding the Sahara issue, welcoming all support to the UN process to find a consensus between the parties to the conflict.

For his part, Mr. Henry Mora Jimenez, who is also chairman of the Legislative Association in Costa Rica, praised Morocco's efforts to find a solution to the Sahara issue and the major projects in all areas. He stressed the need to support the efforts of peaceful settlement under the auspices of the United Nations, in the interest of stability and security in the region.

Morocco became an observer member in this forum after it signed an agreement yesterday in Rabat with Moroccan Parliament. It wants to strengthen its relations with the parliaments of these countries and activates the role of committees and joint working groups.

In addition, this membership will allow Morocco to better defend the national cause. Cooperation and communication with these countries will exchange experiences, particularly regarding the development, immigration and the issue of terrorism.

It is worth mentioning that the Forum of Presidents of Legislative Powers of Central America and the Caribbean includes the parliaments of Guatemala, Belize, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Dominican Republic and Mexico.

This forum aims to promote the implementation and harmonization of legislatures between Member States to put in place mechanisms for consultation between the presidents of the legislative to master the various problems of the region institutions. In addition, it conducts legislative studies on the exchange of expertise at regional level in order to increase the effectiveness of the action of the legislative bodies in Member States.
