Cote d'Ivoire stressed on Monday in front of the 4th Committee of the UN General Assembly that the Moroccan autonomy plan "finds its source in international legality" and testifies the serious and credible efforts of Morocco in a political settlement to the dispute over the issue of the Moroccan Sahara.

"My delegation welcomes the efforts by the Kingdom of Morocco to seek a final solution to the Moroccan Sahara, through its proposal to grant a broad autonomy to the Sahara region within the framework of sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity of Morocco," said Bernard Tanoh-Boutchoue, Permanent Representative of Côte d'Ivoire to the UN, during the general debate of this UN Committee.

Côte d'Ivoire, he stressed, considers that the Moroccan plan "testifies to the serious and credible efforts made by the Security Council, with a view to a political settlement of the dispute and its source in the international law on the basis of arrangements consistent with the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations ".

"Besides the parties, the invitation of the Security Council to the neighboring States to cooperate more fully with the United Nations and to be resolutely involved in a political solution reflects the renewed will of this major organ of our common organization to succeed to a comprehensive and lasting solution of this issue, which takes into account the general interest of all the peoples of the region, "said the Ivorian ambassador.

according to him, this approach would undoubtedly contribute to closer rapprochement and cooperation between the member states of the Arab Maghreb Union, while creating the conditions for greater stability and security in the vast Sahel region .

To this end, he said, the international community should fully support the new impetus of the Security Council and Secretary-General, with a view to a final settlement of the dispute.
