In a presentation to the Governing Council concerning the Moroccan initiative with regard to the AU, Mezouar stressed that this process ends the maneuvers of the enemies of the territorial integrity to hijack this Pan African institution and exploit it against the territorial integrity of the Kingdom, noting that it is time to correct a historical mistake which was a shame in the history of the Organization of the African Union, "according to a statement read by the Minister of Communication, government spokesman Mustapha El Khalfi, after the council in a press briefing.
Under the new role of the AU and in light of the new challenges facing the continent, vast contacts shortly before the holding of the Kigali Summit helped to win appreciation and support to the royal initiative, including motion by 28 African states clearly seeking to correct a historical mistake, noted the Minister of Foreign Affairs and cooperation, noting that the number of African states do not recognize the ghostly entity 34 of which 17 have withdrawn their recognition over the last thirty years, and a total of 36 states have withdrawn their recognition since 2000.
Referring to the royal message to the 27th AU Summit confirming the African anchorage of Morocco and stressing the words by the late King Hassan II in 1984: "Africa is the African Morocco, it will remain and we all Moroccans remain.. in the service of Africa ... we will be at the forefront to preserve the dignity of African citizens and respect our continent ... "Mezouar stressed that this African commitment has never denied for three decades.
The royal message, he said, stressed that Morocco, which placed Africa at the heart of its foreign policy, endorsed its security concerns, stability and dignity and erected the defense of the continent on its agenda, opposing anyone attempting to tarnish the image of the Kingdom of Morocco, noting that concrete results on the ground speak for themselves and reveal a advanced and unique model of South-South cooperation.
At the same time, he added, the royal message has clearly demonstrated that it is not possible to compare the Kingdom of Morocco with a chimerical entity whose membership has been accepted through fraud, conniving and deceit using the diversion of legal procedures and provisions of the AU Charter, adding that it is time to remove manipulations, funding separatism, and stop in Africa conflicts of another age, emphasizing that the challenge is unity and cohesion.
Mezouar said that the Moroccan initiative is a bold and daring historic step which opens a new stage in African politics of Morocco, in the process of the national cause and Africa.
The Council was an opportunity to reiterate gratitude to States which supported this initiative and to all other States within or outside the continent which have interacted positively with this approach that Morocco intends to implement with confidence and that will be the framework for action in Morocco in anticipation of the next AU summit, scheduled for January 2017.
The Kingdom of Morocco will work, under the leadership of the King, to achieve this goal, relying on the justice of his cause, the history of the Kingdom, its positions, relationships and the support received during the announcement of this historic initiative, bold and strategic, adds the same source, noting that the reactions of enemies who used desperate maneuvers doomed to failure, face the correctness of the Moroccan position facing a Kingdom whose roots are in Africa and hopes to contribute to its leadership, building and protecting its unity.
The government, the statement concluded, said on this occasion, its commitment to translate into reality the royal orientation and to implement provisions at the sector and bilateral levels, to preserve these achievements, relying on the solid consensus around the Moroccan defense of national territorial integrity and calling for innovative initiatives preserving this choice.
