Jordan reiterated, on Tuesday before the 4th Committee of the United Nations General Assembly, its support for the Moroccan autonomy initiative, which is "in harmony with the relevant resolutions of the Security Council and the General Assembly", while welcoming the efforts of the Kingdom aimed at the development of its southern provinces and the improvement of the living conditions of their population.

"My country welcomes the positive commitment of the brotherly Kingdom of Morocco aimed at achieving a consensual and final political solution to the Sahara issue through the presentation of the autonomy initiative, which is in harmony with the relevant resolutions by the Security Council and the General Assembly," Jordan's representative told the Committee.

In this regard, he reaffirmed Jordan's support for the Moroccan autonomy initiative "as a serious and realistic mechanism which takes into account the specificities of the region, the sovereignty of the Kingdom of Morocco over its territory and its total territorial integrity, in accordance with the UN Charter".

The Jordanian diplomat also lauded Morocco's efforts aimed at the development of its southern provinces, and the improvement of the living conditions of their population while allowing them to benefit from the region's resources, in addition to the Kingdom's efforts in terms of the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic in the region.

He also commended the efforts of the UN Secretary-General to promote progress in the political process to achieve a realistic and lasting solution to this regional dispute, while welcoming the momentum created by the two round tables held in December 2018 and March 2019, "with the positive participation of all the parties concerned", namely, Morocco, Algeria, Mauritania and the Polisario.
