The Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra region is placed on a gradual and prudent revival of economic activities affected by containment systems aimed at stemming the spread of the new coronavirus (Covid-19).


A meeting of the regional economic watch committee was held on Wednesday at the headquarters of the wilaya of Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra to make a diagnosis of the socio-economic situation and develop proposals for a good recovery of the local economy with total respect preventive measures recommended by the competent authorities.The wali of the region, governor of the province of Laâyoune, Abdeslam Bekrate, explained that this meeting is part of the implementation of the participatory and interactive approach between the various parties concerned.




It is also a question, he added, of monitoring the application of the systems adopted to support economic operators in resuming their activities, noting the need to support all sectors




According to Bekrate, the focus should be on protecting the health and safety of citizens, but also on absorbing the impact of the economic hardship caused by the coronavirus pandemic.




He mentioned the various measures taken by the Economic Watch Committee (CVE), citing the exceptional guarantee “Damane Oxygène” to come to the aid of businesses in difficulty, payment of compensation in favor of Ramed  and non-Ramed  households and suspension payment of social security contributions to the CNSS for the period from March 1 to June 30, 2020, and a graceful remission of late payments for the aforementioned period, as well as the implementation of the “SMART” platform (Authorization Management System, Reporting and Processing).


For his part, the chairman of the Laâyoune municipal council, Moulay Hamdi Ould Errachid, paid tribute to the efforts made by the local authorities since the beginning of this epidemic wave to ensure the safety and health of citizens, welcoming the mobilization of all state institutions in this delicate situation.


He also highlighted coordination between elected councils and agents of authority during food aid distribution operations for disadvantaged households.


Presidents of the professional chambers deemed it necessary to take concrete measures to support professionals in the economic sectors most affected by the impacts of Covid-19, in particular hotels, crafts, tourism and services.




They also expressed the commitment of professionals to comply with the health requirements decreed by the competent authorities even in post-confinement period in order to contribute to the preservation of public health.




In addition, the regional representatives of the ministerial departments made a diagnosis of the economic and social situation in the region, in particular in the fields of tourism, sea fishing, agriculture, craft industry, trade and services.
