Colombia welcomed, on Friday in Rabat, the Moroccan autonomy proposal to reach a solution to the dispute over the Sahara and lauded the fact that the different UN resolutions have recognized the "value of the serious efforts" made by Morocco on this matter.

"Colombia welcomes the Moroccan autonomy proposal presented in 2007 to reach a political, realistic, durable and compromise-based solution by all parties to put an end to this regional dispute which is of fundamental importance to Morocco because it concerns its territorial integrity and sovereignty," said Colombian Foreign Minister Carlos Holmes Trujillo.

In a statement to the press after his talks with Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita, the Colombian official stressed that his country lauds the fact that the different UN resolutions have recognized the "value of the serious efforts" made by Morocco to resolve the Sahara issue.

Trujillo noted that Colombia supports the UN efforts to achieve a "just, durable and mutually acceptable political solution" to this regional dispute.
