The briefing of members of the Security Council by the UN Secretary-General's Personal Envoy for the Sahara, Horst Kohler, has provided important clarifications on the issue of the Moroccan Sahara, which have refuted many allegations of enemies of the territorial integrity of the Kingdom, said minister delegate for relations with parliament and civil society, government spokesperson Mustapha El Khalfi.
The statement by the presidency of the Security Council, made public at the end of this briefing, reaffirmed the position of the United Nations on the situation in Guergarat and the need to maintain the status quo, said El Khalfi at a press briefing after the weekly cabinet meeting, held on Thursday under the chairmanship of head of government, Saad Eddine El Othmani.
The statement comes in response to provocations and the violation of the ceasefire agreement by the polisario front, said the government spokesman.
El Khalfi pointed out that "there is no solution to the Sahara question outside Moroccan sovereignty and the autonomy initiative," noting that the issue of the Moroccan Sahara is the exclusive competence of the United Nations and that Morocco rejects any parallel discussions likely to deflect the process of these constants.
He also recalled that the meeting in Lisbon between the Moroccan delegation and Kohler was held in the context of the fundamentals of the national position as outlined in the speech of HM King Mohammed VI, on the occasion of the commemoration of the 42nd anniversary of the Green March, on November 6, 2017.
