Chairman of EU-Morocco Friendship Group Gilles Pargneaux reaffirmed, Tuesday in Rabat, the importance of the Moroccan autonomy initiative.


In a meeting with Ahmed Touizi, member of the House of Advisors' Bureau, in the presence of Mohamed Sheikh Biadillah, the chairman of the EU-Morocco parliamentary friendship group described the Moroccan initiative as "serious and credible" and constitutes a solution to resolve the conflict over the Sahara within the framework of the national sovereignty and the territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Morocco.


According to a statement from the House of Advisors, Pargneaux emphasized the important role of parliamentary diplomacy in bringing visions closer and defending exemplary strategic cooperation between the two parties.


The European official also highlighted issues of common interest regarding security challenges, and negotiations on the fisheries issue and migration, reviewing the objectives behind the creation of the Euromed as an institution for dialogue between parliamentarians and advocacy on issues relating to the Euro-Mediterranean area and Africa.


He also extended an invitation to the speaker of the House of Advisors to participate in an international conference in Paris under the theme "France and Morocco: a partnership moving towards Africa".


Touizi underscored the strategic partnership relations between Morocco and the EU in the various fields, considering that the advanced status granted to Morocco is a recognition of the considerable development witnessed in the Moroccan-European relations.
