The new personal envoy of the UN Secretary General for the Sahara, Horst Koehler, took office on September 8 in New York.
Horst Koehler held a series of meetings and consultations until September 16, UN spokesman said on Sunday.
"Mr. Koehler met with the Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, and senior United Nations officials, representatives of parties and neighbors, and Member States," the statement said.
The Secretary-General, he said, "welcomed the intention of his Personal Envoy to visit the region," while stressing "the importance of this visit to relaunch the political process in a new spirit and a new momentum, in accordance with Security Council Resolution 2351 (2017) ".
The statement noted that Mr. Koehler "looks forward to visiting the region and engaging with the parties in a spirit of trust and compromise."
