The President of the Senate of Saint Lucia, Andy G. Daniel, expressed his support for Morocco's proposal to grant autonomy to the southern provinces of Morocco in the framework of sovereignty, unity, territorial integrity of the Kingdom.


In a communiqué received by the MAP, the President of the Senate of Saint Lucia said he was "firmly convinced that Morocco's autonomy plan is a clear manifestation of the will, resolution and determination of the populations to establish peaceful coexistence ".


After praising Morocco's efforts to reach a final political settlement to the regional conflict in the Moroccan Sahara, Mr Andy G.Daniel stressed that the plan of autonomy, which is "reflective, representative, reliable and responsible" In his opinion, "a realistic approach that could no doubt meet the hopes and desires of the entire population in the southern provinces of the Kingdom of Morocco."


In this regard, the President of the Senate of Saint Lucia expressed his full support for the United Nations resolution to extend the mandate of Minurso until 30 April 2018 and its "unwavering" support for the adoption of resolution 2351 (2017) of the United Nations, calling on the parties to "resume negotiations under the auspices of the Secretary-General without preconditions and in good faith, taking into account the action taken since 2006 and developments with a view to achieving a just, lasting and mutually acceptable political solution" to this conflict.
