The European Union (EU) announced on Tuesday in New York, "concern over implications" of the dispute over the Sahara on regional "Security and Cooperation" while affirming support to a "census" of populations in Tindouf camps.

"The EU remains concerned about the implications of the Sahara conflict on security and cooperation in the region," said Carl Hallergard, representative of the Delegation of the European Commission to the United Nations before the 4th Committee.

"We support the call of the Security Council that the High Commissioner for Refugees maintains its consideration of a census of refugees in the Tindouf camps," he said.

The EU also reiterates "full support for the efforts" in this regard to the achievement of a just, lasting and mutually acceptable political solution, and encourages parties to continue to work towards this solution. "We welcome efforts" in this regard and "we strongly encourage parties and neighboring States to continue working" to "allow the political process to move forward," said representative of the EU delegation to the UN.

The EU also welcomes " adoption of resolution 2152 (2014) of the Security Council" on the Sahara and "commitment of the parties to continue to show political will and work in an atmosphere propitious for dialogue," EU official added, "negotiations in good faith and without preconditions should be carried out noting the efforts and developments since 2006, and thus ensuring the implementation of the various Security Council resolutions and success of negotiations"

It is important, he has continued that "parties show more political will to move forward toward a solution."
