This new center aims, in particular, to strengthen the French language among all segments of society, develop a high-quality educational and cultural offering, encourage intercultural dialogue, and contribute to the region's cultural vibrancy through a program open to exchange and cultural diversity.

In his remarks, Ambassador Lalliot stated that "the opening of this center is part of the commitments announced by French President Emmanuel Macron during his state visit to Morocco in 2024, at the invitation of His Majesty King Mohammed VI."

Lalliot emphasized that this new institution, the third French Cultural Center in the Kingdom after those in Safi and Ouarzazate, represents a further step towards deepening cultural and educational cooperation between the two countries.

He added that the opening of this association tangibly embodies the rapprochement between the two societies and peoples, and between Moroccan and French youth, through education, language, and the arts. He emphasized that "the opening of the French Association reflects the existence of genuine local talent, along with the involvement of local stakeholders in the success of this project."

The ambassador also highlighted the unique nature of the French cultural and educational system in Morocco, considering it "virtually unparalleled abroad." He noted that this network currently comprises three French associations and twelve French institutes, totaling "15 institutions covering the entire Moroccan territory, from the north to the south of the Kingdom."

He stated that the Kingdom has chosen to make the regions of the Moroccan Sahara "the land of the future," where education and culture are at the heart of its priorities.

For her part, the president of the French Association in Laayoune, Alia Boukzaj, indicated that the opening of this institution represents the culmination of a project based on the conviction that culture, education, and intercultural dialogue are fundamental drivers of human development and the strengthening of ties between peoples.

Boukzaj noted that the opening of this institution is of particular importance to the southern provinces of the Kingdom, given its contribution to enhancing the cultural influence of Laayoune and promoting the tangible and intangible heritage and artistic expressions of the Moroccan Sahara.

She added that this initiative falls within the framework of the dynamic friendship and cooperation between Morocco and France, and reflects the shared will of both countries to strengthen cultural, educational, and humanitarian exchange.

Mr. Lalliot and his delegation held meetings with the Wali of the Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra region and Governor of Laayoune Province, Abdeslam Bekrate, the Mayor of Laayoune, Moulay Hamdi Ould Errachid, and the President of the Regional Council, Sidi Hamdi Ould Errachid. These meetings focused particularly on the comprehensive development dynamics in the region and the strengthening of cultural and educational ties with the southern provinces of the Kingdom.

The French Ambassador and his delegation also conducted a field visit to several major projects in the region, including the City of Trades and Skills, the University Hospital Center, and the Grand Multimedia Library.
