A delegation from the US Congress, on a working visit to Morocco from March 13 to 17, was briefed on the dynamics of development taking place in the Dakhla-Oued Ed Dahab region. It also met a number of local officials and visited several industrial units.


During his visit to the region, the American delegation, consisting of Silvia Garcia (Texas), Adriano Espayat (New York) and Salud Carvajal (California), met with the governor of the Oued Ed-Dahab region, Lamine Benomar, and the vice-president of the Dakhla-Oued Ed-Dahab region, Moulay Butal Lembarki, in the presence of local elected officials.
These meetings provided an opportunity for the American delegation to learn about the great progress achieved in the region under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, as well as the ongoing development programs, as well as the effective contribution of women and youth in the region to local politics and management of public affairs.

The potentials and qualifications that the region abounds in, as a gateway to the Kingdom towards its African depth, were also highlighted, as well as business and investment opportunities, especially in the fields of agriculture, fishing, tourism, aquaculture and renewable energies, as well as the positive impact of the new port that is under construction, which will make the region a center real economy for West Africa.

The American delegation was also briefed on the progress made in the field of development of this region, especially with regard to the ongoing American cooperation programs, within the framework of the Middle East Partnership Initiative dedicated to Morocco, as well as the initiatives taken in the vital social sectors, especially health and education.

In the wake of these meetings, US Congressman Adriano Espayat highlighted, in a press statement, that the visit of US Congress members to the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab region allowed them to get acquainted closely with the progress made in the region in various fields, and the aspirations of local officials to develop it within the framework of a plan. Following their meetings with local officials, the members of the American delegation paid field visits to several completed projects, where they closely observed the efforts made to ensure a comprehensive and integrated development of the region.

In this context, the delegation visited the fish processing unit, which is part of the socio-economic development projects implemented in recent years in the region, which contribute to its prosperity.

The delegation also visited the traditional industry center “Dar Al-Sana’a”, which contributes to the empowerment of women in the region on the social and economic levels. During the visit, the delegation was also briefed on the rich Hassani heritage and culture, as an integral part of the multiple national identity.

During their visit to the Kingdom, the members of the American delegation met with Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch, Speaker of Parliament, Rachid Talbi Alami, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Abroad, Nasser Bourita, and visited the cities of Rabat, Tangiers and Casablanca.

The members of the American delegation took this opportunity to pay tribute to the major reforms achieved by the Kingdom of Morocco under the leadership of His Majesty the King, and the leadership of His Majesty, in the service of peace and stability.
