The Latin-American Parliament (Parlatino) shares the position of Morocco on the Sahara issue, said Friday in Madrid the president of this regional institution of 23 national parliaments, Jorge Pizarro Estéban.

"We share the position of Morocco on the issue of the Moroccan Sahara. Our position has been expressed regionally and at national parliaments," Pizarro Esteban told MAP at the end of a meeting with the Speakers of the House of Representatives, Rachid Talbi Alami, and the House of Advisors, Naama Mayara, on the sidelines of the 143rd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), held from November 26-30.

"The position of Latin American countries towards the Moroccan Sahara has changed drastically in recent years in favor of the Kingdom," said the president of Parlatino, adding that this result is the outcome of "positive inter-parliamentary political dialogue" between Morocco and the various member countries of Parlatino.

"Latin American countries are increasingly aware of the reality and historical facts related to this issue," he pointed out.

Pizarro highlighted Morocco's role in coordinating and facilitating communication between African, Arab, and Latin American and Caribbean countries, welcoming the Kingdom's commitment to implement the constitutive declaration of the African-Latin American Parliamentary Forum.

During this meeting, held in the presence of the Executive Secretary-General of Parlatino, Elyas Castillo, and Mohamed Salem Benmessaoud, member of the Board of the House of Advisors, Pizarro expressed the appreciation of Parlatino to the Moroccan Parliament for its contribution in setting up an interactive library at the headquarters of Parlatino in Panama.
