Morocco has made major diplomatic advances in the Moroccan Sahara issue, said in Dakhla the director general of the Paris-based Observatory of Geopolitical Studies (OEG), Charles Saint-Prot.

"Major diplomatic advances have been achieved by Morocco in recent years, such as the adoption of UN resolutions that are increasingly in favor of the Moroccan autonomy plan, the increasing condemnation of separatists' activities and, finally, the expansion of consular openings in the southern provinces," he told MAP on the sidelines of the 1st MD Sahara Forum, which kicked off Thursday in Dakhla, at the initiative of the media outlet "Maroc Diplomatique".

It is appropriate, he argued, to take the full measure of the growing international recognition of the legitimacy of the Moroccan autonomy initiative as a "realistic" and "sustainable" solution to this artificial conflict that "poisons" international relations for 45 years.

According to him, support for the Moroccan autonomy proposal is the position of major international powers that all insist that the settlement of this issue will "naturally" take place through the adoption of the autonomy plan, whose "seriousness, realism and credibility" are more than proven.
