The Lausanne-based International Network of Arab and African Journalists (RIJAA) hailed Morocco’s peaceful action to secure the passage through El Guerguarat and restore free movement in the area.

In a press release, RIJAA welcomes “the peaceful intervention of the Royal Armed Forces which made it possible to bring together the appropriate conditions for the resumption of the normal flow of people, goods and food products between Europe,  Western Africa and Sahel-Saharan region”.

The Network also calls on “all the parties concerned to respect the resolutions of the United Nations, first and foremost the ceasefire in force since 1991, and to refrain from any act likely to wage war in view of its disastrous repercussions on the economic and social development of the peoples of the whole region ”.

The RIJAA stresses, in this sense, that the measures taken by Morocco “are the concrete embodiment of the spirit of solidarity and cooperation between African countries, in particular in the context of the Covid-19 crisis”, noting that these actions have been highly praised by a large number of Arab and African countries, international organizations and bodies.

The International Network of Arab and African Journalists called, moreover, "to stick to a sense of objectivity and respect for rules of ethics and professional conduct in media coverage of current developments in the region."
