Chile said, on Friday before the 4th Committee of the UN General Assembly, that it is in favor of a mutually acceptable political solution to the Moroccan Sahara issue.





Speaking before the Committee, the Chilean Ambassador to the UN underlined "the importance for all parties to renew their commitment to move forward in the political process with a view to future negotiations, taking into account the recommendation that the vision of realism and the spirit of compromise are essential elements for moving forward".


He also said that the resolution of this long-standing regional dispute "will undoubtedly contribute to strengthening stability and security in the region, which currently faces increasing threats, and which, like all others regions of the world, has also been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic in its different manifestations".


For her part, the Deputy Permanent Representative of Costa Rica to the UN stressed that her country "continues to call for a political, just, lasting and acceptable solution by all parties to the regional dispute over the Moroccan Sahara in accordance with relevant resolutions by the Security Council and the General Assembly.
