The opening of consulates general of African countries in the southern provinces reflects a growing and unequivocal support for the Moroccanness of the Sahara on the continent, said, Thursday in Laayoune, minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita.

"All regions of the African continent are now represented in the southern provinces of the Kingdom by diplomatic representations," Bourita said at a joint press briefing with his Santomean counterpart, Elsa Teixeira de Barros Pinto.

"West Africa is represented by the Republic of Côte d'Ivoire and the Republic of Gabon, the South-East of the continent is represented by the Union of Comoros, while Central Africa is represented by the Central African Republic," the minister explained.

The opening of these consulates is a "political and diplomatic gesture that has a strong symbolic significance" and "reinforces the reality that the Sahara is Moroccan by law, by history, by the will of its population and by the support of the international community and friends of Morocco," Bourita said.

He added that the inauguration of diplomatic representations in Laayoune and Dakhla gives a strong impetus to the recent positive momentum on the issue of the territorial integrity of the Kingdom, thanks to the far-sighted vision of HM King Mohammed VI, recalling the decision announced this week by Bolivia to suspend its recognition of the pseudo "sadr" and to "sever all ties" with the factitious entity.

Referring to Wednesday's adoption by the House of Representatives of two bills establishing the Kingdom's legal authority over its entire maritime domain, Bourita noted that these two texts enshrine Morocco's sovereignty "over its territorial waters from Tangier to Lagouira, as it has been doing practically since the recovery of the Kingdom's southern provinces".

He recalled that the activation of the legislative procedure relating to the two bills comes in the wake of the Royal speech on the occasion of the 44th anniversary of the Green March, in which the Sovereign stressed the need to assimilate the configuration of the entire territorial space of the Kingdom.
