The Dominican Republic has reaffirmed its respect for the territorial integrity of Morocco and its national sovereignty as well as its support for the efforts of Morocco in the search for a political solution to put an end to the regional dispute over the Sahara.

In a joint statement issued Tuesday after a meeting in Santo Domingo between Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita and his Dominican counterpart Miguel Vargas Maldonado, the Dominican Republic considers that the autonomy initiative presented by the Kingdom of Morocco in 2007 is a realistic, credible and serious basis to reach a negotiated result by the parties.

Morocco and the Dominican Republic affirmed, on this occasion, their willingness to strengthen bilateral relations and give a new impetus to their cooperation in the different areas of interest, as part of the ongoing political dialogue between the two countries.

During this visit, President of the Dominican Republic Danilo Medina received, at the Presidential Palace in Santo Domingo, the Foreign Minister who conveyed to him a verbal message from HM King Mohammed VI.

In this verbal message, HM the King reaffirmed the Kingdom's will to foster its bilateral relations with the Dominican Republic and to boost partnership between the two friendly countries.
