The debate on the Sahara should not take place.The Sahara territory is Moroccan and it has always been the case, Verstrynge told MAP on the sidelines of his participation in the 5th annual meeting of the Crans Montana Forum, which is held in Dakhla (March 14-17).

The Sahrawi people do not exist. This is a creation of Algeria and some of the Spanish left-wing parties are, unfortunately, still unaware of the real situation in this Moroccan territory, said, a political expert and former secretary general of the People's Alliance, a federation of political conservative, founded at the beginning of the democratic transition in Spain.

"I am very close to the Podemos party, but I have to state things as they are," he said.

In this context, he called on Algeria to deal with its domestic political problems instead of meddling in the affairs of Morocco and its Sahara.

Morocco has achieved huge economic growth and progress in Africa and is making considerable efforts in solidarity with African countries, he added.

The role of Morocco is fundamental and its importance will grow more in the future as a "strong link" of Africa's development and a partner of Europe, he said.
