The Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Ahmed Abou El-Gheit, welcomed the speech by HM King Mohammed VI on the occasion of the Green March, in which the Sovereign calls for the creation of a mechanism of direct dialogue between Morocco and Algeria to transcend the disputes between the two brotherly Arab countries and examine bilateral relations.

In a statement from the Arab League, Mr. Abou El-Gheit stressed that this important call is likely to open new perspectives in relations between the two countries and at the level of the Arab Maghreb Union (AMU).

This initiative, he added, will strengthen cooperation in North Africa and in the Sahel and Sahara region, particularly in the fight against terrorism and organized crime.

"The Secretary-General of the League of Arab States has stressed the important role of the two Arab States in joint Arab action in various fields calling for a welcome response to any initiative on the issues of conflict and common challenges at the top of which terrorism, "said the Arab League spokesman Mahmoud Affifi quoted by the statement.
