Introducing the Hassani culture in Italy gives a real image of Morocco, quite contrary to the one conveyed by some media, said Thursday, the mayor of the city of Otranto, Pierre Paulo Carddi.

He said, in a statement to the MAP, on the sidelines of the 10th edition of the Mediterranean Journalists Festival, initiated since last Monday, of which Morocco is the guest of honor this year, that the initiative to set up tents in Otranto and highlight the specificities of the Hassani culture made discover the secular civilization of the Kingdom of Morocco.

Most Italians do not know much about the cultural legacy of the southern provinces of the Kingdom and the local specificities of this region, he said, noting that the organization of this festival is an opportunity to learn about the culture and subsequently program tours in the southern Kingdom.

The mayor of the city also welcomed the convergences between the Moroccan and Italian cultures and peoples of both countries, noting that "what brings us historically with Morocco is stronger than with the countries of Europe".

Carddi also expressed willingness to plan similar activities with other Moroccan cities in the social, economic, cultural and political spheres, noting that such initiatives help to further strengthen bilateral cooperation.

This festival, which will continue until September 16th, at the initiative of the Mediterranean Cultural Association, under the theme " Mediterranean: Challenges and Opportunities", is an ideal opportunity to examine the means to meet the challenges of  journalists in the region, bringing cultures together, bridging the gap between Islamic and Western culture, promoting dialogue between journalists from both sides of the border, and exchanging views on different issues.

During the festival, which was attended by journalists, diplomats and researchers from Mediterranean countries, several conferences were on the agenda, including "For a new Mediterranean", "Islam and Europe," "The Mediterranean and AMU ".

In addition, several workshops were planned as part of this edition, and books were presented on various issues related to the Mediterranean including immigration which is a hot topic in Italy.

The event ended with the awarding of prizes to journalists from various media outlets in the Mediterranean, in recognition of their work on issues of immigration, security and terrorism in this region of the world.
