A delegation from the Parliament of the Andean Group made a visit to Laayoune on Wednesday, where it learned about the region's development momentum in various fields.


During the visit, members of the delegation, led by Andean Parliament speaker Fernando Mesa, held a series of meetings with local authorities, members of the municipal council and scheikhs and notables of the Sahrawi tribes.


Arriving Tuesday night in Laayoune as part of a working visit to Morocco, the Andean delegation also visited important development projects and facilities in the Laayoune-Sakia-El Hamra region.


During a meeting with the President of the City Council of Laayoune, Hamdi Ouled Errachid, members of the delegation of the Andean Parliament were informed of the potential of the region and the infrastructure in different sectors, as well as the construction sites in the city to ensure sustainable socio-economic development, within the framework of the new model of development of the southern provinces.


This visit also allowed the Andean delegation to see for themselves the climate of security, tranquility and stability prevailing in the region.


In addition, the elected representatives and Cheikhs of the Saharawi tribes reiterated, during a meeting with the members of this delegation, their commitment to the autonomy initiative as the only solution for the settlement of the Moroccan Sahara issue.


In this regard, the various speakers welcomed the support of the Parliament of the Andean countries for this initiative, which constitutes a credible and realistic solution, guaranteeing the dignity, freedom and rights of the local population and enabling them to manage their own affairs.


For their part, the members of the Andean delegation expressed their admiration for the great momentum of development initiated in the southern provinces under  visionary vision of HM King Mohammed VI.


The visit to Morocco of the delegation of the Andean Parliament, which comes at the invitation of the Speaker of the House of Councilors, Hakim Benchamach, is part of the good relations between the two legislative institutions that were further strengthened during in recent years, thanks to the frequent visits of Andean parliamentary leaders to the Kingdom, says a statement from the House.


The parliament of the Andean countries expressed its full support for the question of the territorial integrity of the Kingdom and issued a recommendation to support Morocco's efforts to resolve the artificial dispute around the Moroccan Sahara, through the Moroccan Initiative autonomy.


It should be noted that the Andean Parliament brings together the countries of Chile, Colombia, Peru, Ecuador and Bolivia.
