The final statement of the Summit of the GCC countries and Morocco reaffirms their support for autonomy presented by Morocco
Qatar reiterated on Monday before the 4th Committee of the UN General Assembly its support for the Moroccan autonomy plan as a basis for resolving the Sahara issue.
"Qatar has always advocated the settlement of disputes through constructive dialogue and cooperation between the parties and with the United Nations, and we believe that this is the ideal way to find a final and consensual political solution to the Sahara issue," said Yacoub Al Hamadi, Deputy Permanent Representative of Qatar at the UN, during the general debate of the Committee.
"We therefore welcome efforts to find a solution to this issue as part of the political process initiated in 2007 under the auspices of the Secretary-General and his Personal Envoy to implement the relevant Security Council resolutions, in particular resolution 2351 of 2017, while ensuring that the Kingdom of Morocco is sovereign, "he said.
In this regard, the Qatari representative drew attention to the communiqué of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and Morocco Summit, in which the leaders of the GCC countries reaffirmed their support for the proposal to " autonomy presented by Morocco as a constructive initiative and as a basis for resolving this regional dispute. The conclusion of a political solution to this dispute, which has lasted too long, will have a positive impact on the strengthening of cooperation between the countries of this important region and achievement of the stability and security of the region in general.
