The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mgwagwa Gamedze, reiterated Thursday in Rabat his country's support to Morocco on the Sahara issue, welcoming the "fraternal and historical" relations between the two countries.


"The position of Swaziland was and will remain very clear on the Sahara issue, we fully support Morocco," Gamedze said in a statement to the press after talks with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International cooperation, Nasser Bourita.


The Swaziland minister welcomed the excellent "fraternal and historical" relations between the two kingdoms, which share the same values and the same attachment to the continuation.


In this regard, he reiterated his firm determination to strengthen and further develop the long-standing cooperative relations between the two countries in various fields.


In addition, the head of Swaziland diplomacy welcomed the return of Morocco to the African Union (AU), saying that "Morocco can bring a lot to the African Union and the continent as a whole" It is a key partner for the success of the many initiatives initiated in Africa.


For his part, Bourita said the talks were an opportunity to salute the distinguished and fraternal relations between the two Kingdoms, emphasizing the shared will to strengthen these ties through in particular the holding of the joint Morocco- Swaziland Committe in early 2018.


The two sides also discussed ways to boost bilateral cooperation in several areas, including tourism and agriculture, he said.


He also underscored Morocco's commitment to supporting the training of Swaziland executives in Morocco, sharing expertise and providing technical assistance, particularly in water and renewable energy sectors.


Bourita said his talks with his Swaziland counterpart, whose country is currently chairing the Southern African Development Community (SADC), was also an opportunity to discuss ways to consolidate cooperation between Morocco and this regional grouping, in view of the forthcoming summit of the African Union.


SADC Presidency by Swaziland will be an opportunity to open a dialogue with the countries of this community, in order to clarify Morocco's position on the Sahara issue, he said.
