Spain "has not changed its position" in relation to the Sahara issue, and reiterates its "full readiness" to continue its efforts to contribute to the development of the strategic relationship between Morocco and the European Union, stressed the spokesperson of the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Ms. Ana Rodriguez.

In a statement delivered to the MAP on Monday, Ambassador Ricardo Díez-Hochleitner of the Kingdom of Spain in Morocco highlighted the spokesman's statement about "the importance of Spanish-Moroccan relations" following information published on the Madrid position regarding the Sahara issue.

The Spokesperson stressed in this connection that Spain "supports a political, just, lasting and mutually acceptable solution within the framework of the relevant resolutions of the UN Security Council", added the Spanish ambassador.

The Spanish diplomat said that this afternoon Mrs. Ana Rodriguez "wished to emphasize on behalf of the Spanish government the determination of Spain to continue to maintain and develop its privileged relationship with the Kingdom of Morocco."

Mr Díez-Hochleitner wished to stress "the full readiness of the Spanish Government to continue its efforts to contribute to the development of the strategic relationship between Morocco and the European Union".

"The Spanish government supports the ongoing technical talks between EU officials and Morocco to agree on the best way to implement the European Court of Justice's judgment dated December 21, 2016," the source added.
