France reiterated on Tuesday its consistent position on the issue of the Moroccan Sahara, stressing that the autonomy plan is a serious and credible basis for a negotiated solution.

"The position of France on this subject is known and constant," stressed the spokesman of the Quai d'Orsay Romain Nadal during a press point, specifying that his country supports the search for a just, lasting and mutually agreed upon solution, under the aegis of the United Nations and in accordance with the Security Council resolutions.

France "considers the autonomy plan presented by Morocco in 2007 as a serious and credible basis for a negotiated solution," he added.

The "Western" Sahara conflict is an artificial conflict imposed on Morocco by Algeria, which finances and harbors on its territory in Tindouf the separatist movement of the Polisario. This separatist movement, supported by the Algerian government, claims the creation of a factitious state in the Maghreb.

This situation is blocking all efforts by the international community to resolve the conflict based on advanced autonomy within a Moroccan sovereign framework and regional economic and security integration.
