The populations of Tindouf camps, southwest Algeria, are not refugees but sequestered, deprived of freedom of movement and under the influence of armed militias that divert aid granted to them by international organizations, said the Ambassador of Morocco in Australia and New Zealand, Mohamed El-Mae Ainin.

Mr. El-Mae Ainin said during an interview with Australian radio SBS, that Morocco considers the case of the Sahara as an issue resolved since the territory returned to the motherland after the departure of the Spanish colonizer.

Moroccan ambassador added that the Kingdom presented its autonomy proposal for the southern provinces to the UN when the latter considered that the case is at an impasse.

The UN also qualified the Moroccan proposal as credible and serious and can lead to the settlemnt of the problem, added the Ambassador of Morocco.

The Moroccan diplomat reiterated that Morocco considers that the sequestered people in Tindouf are citizens and willing to find a solution within the framework of its sovereignty over its southern provinces.

The ambassador added that HM King Mohammed VI reiterated in his speech of November 6, that Morocco rejects any adventurism whose consequences would be unpredictable.

He added that the invitation by the Secretary General of the United Nations to the parties to participate in negotiations is part of United Nations efforts to find a peaceful solution of conflicts.
