"Algeria is trying to give Polisario representation image of people despite the fact that in the Sahara there are elected officials, parliamentarians and institutions"

Foreign minister Salaheddine Mezouar underlined that Morocco is “striving tirelessly” to overcome the obstacles related to solving the Sahara issue.

In a statement to Egyptian paper “Al Yaoum Assabia” issued on Tuesday, Mezouar added that the Kingdom is cooperating positively with the UN to reach a consensual political solution.

“At the same time, we are firm concerning the preservation of Morocco’s territorial unity since this principle is non-negotiable like Morocco’s sovereignty,” he said.

Everyone understood this and everyone should endeavour to find a solution to this issue, he noted.

The Moroccan official noted that Morocco, which is on its territory, defending its unity and striving so that a portion of its population stops living in the camps of Tindouf, took the initiative of proposing autonomy which allows to include all Sahrawi segments and which meets the Kingdom’s vision of territorial management.

The minister stressed that extensive regionalization adopted by Morocco will enable populations in the Kingdom’s southern provinces to manage their own affairs given the large prerogatives it offers.
