The visit by the delegation of the Royal Advisory Council for Saharan Affairs to Spain was successful. All our contacts with political parties, the Popular Party, the Socialist Labor Party and trade union centers Comiciones Obreras and UGT in addition to the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the House of Representatives and the Committee of the Spanish Senate, were all fruitful contacts. We stood with all these actors at the essence of the Sahara problem and the causes that led to the emergence of this conflict in the region. We also explained functions of the Royal Advisory Council for Saharan Affairs, founded by His Majesty the King on March 25 in Laayoune.

There were discussions of course; all Spanish parties: political parties, parliament, trade unions, media, newspapers, TV and radio, did not know the truth. Therefore, this visit was very important stage in identifying the Sahara issue as we know. We explained it to the Spanish in the manner they understand well and all the necessary information. I think that we made them understand the issues that caused the outbreak of this conflict. We submitted to all parties the project of His Majesty the King to establish autonomy in the southern regions as a final solution to this conflict agreed by all parties. We have received broad and extensive encouragement and understanding by the majority party, opposition party, and their representatives in the House of Representatives and the Senate to support this idea and try all means to mediate between the parties concerned. This is Spain’s role at the negotiating table.

Finally, I believe that this visit, as was the visit to France, a very productive. We have received requests to continue communication and explain the Moroccan dimensions and goals behind its project. There is interest in this friendly by all bodies and by the governing and opposition political parties.
