The chairman of the Royal Advisory Council for Saharan Affairs (CORCAS), Khalihenna Ould Errachid, received a high-ranking delegation from the Tanzanian National Assembly, led by Vice-President Daniel Baran Sillo, today, Thursday, December 18, at the Council's headquarters in Rabat.

During this meeting, which was also attended by CORCAS Secretary General, Dr. Maouelainin Ben Khalihenna Maouelainin, and Council member Moulay Ahmed Mghizlat, Mr. Khalihenna Ould Errachid reviewed the latest developments regarding the Sahara issue with his guests.

The President of CORCAS emphasized the importance of the autonomy plan for the Moroccan Sahara region, proposed by Morocco and developed by the Sahrawi people themselves, represented by the Royal Advisory Council for Saharan Affairs.

He affirmed that the Kingdom of Morocco, by submitting this plan to the United Nations in 2007, presented a courageous and just initiative to break the deadlock surrounding the Sahara issue since the 1991 ceasefire.

This objective was recently adopted by the United Nations Security Council with its landmark Resolution 2797 of October 31, 2025, which established autonomy under Moroccan sovereignty as the sole basis for negotiations between the parties aimed at a definitive solution.

Mr. Khalihenna Ould Errachid recalled the momentum generated in recent years by the Moroccan initiative, which currently enjoys almost unanimous support from the international community.

This positive support comes from UN member states, many of which recognize Moroccan sovereignty over the Sahara, and others have opened consulates in the cities of Laayoune and Dakhla.

The delegation from the National Assembly of Tanzania is undertaking a working visit to Morocco from December 16 to 20, at the invitation of the House of Representatives, to learn about the major projects in which the Kingdom is involved.
