The commemoration of the 43rd anniversary of the recovery of the province of Oued Eddahab is a stage rich in noble values of patriotism, said Sunday in Dakhla the High Commissioner for Former Resistance Fighters and Former Members of the Liberation Army, Mustapha El Ktiri.

Speaking at a meeting, Mr. El Ktiri highlighted the profound meanings symbolized by this glorious anniversary so rich in noble values of sincere patriotism and teachings that embody the feelings of unwavering attachment to the authentic foundations and constants of the nation and mobilization for the defense of the homeland.

In this regard, he recalled that the population of Oued Eddahab was at the rendezvous with history and at the heart of this blessed national movement, through national bodies, political parties and youth organizations that performed their missions and duties, with bravery, by opposing the "Berber Dahir" and expressing their unconditional solidarity with the victims of French repression in 1937 and their support for the Manifesto of independence in 1944.

After the triumphant return of the late Mohammed V from exile to the motherland on November 16, 1955 and his struggle for the completion of the Kingdom’s territorial integrity, the inhabitants of the southern provinces went to Rabat to renew their oath of allegiance and reaffirm their constant mobilization for the completion of the territorial integrity of the Kingdom, he said.

In addition, the High Commissioner for former resistance fighters and former members of the Liberation Army emphasized the distinguished participation of the Southern Provinces population in the process of national struggle for freedom and independence in a spirit of constant mobilization, citing in this regard the victories as heroic as impressive against the Spanish and French military forces, namely Oum El Achar, Merguala and Souihat in 1956, Rghioua and Oued Safa, in addition to the battles of Ait Baamran in 1957 and Dcheira in 1958, and other battles engraved in the annals of Moroccan history.

The late HM Mohammed V had continued to claim the right of the Kingdom to liberate its Sahara, including in his famous speech on February 25, 1958 in M'hamid El-Ghizlane which was decisive in the determination of Morocco to move forward in the recovery of its despoiled land in the Sahara, he recalled.

These tireless efforts were crowned, first, by the return of Tarfaya on April 15, 1958 and Sidi Ifni June 30, 1969, then by the organization on November 6, 1975, of the glorious Green March that gave a masterly demonstration to the world of the depth of the unitary aspirations of the Moroccan people and its mobilization behind the late HM Hassan II, to complete the territorial unity, he said.

The recovery of Oued Eddahab, August 14, 1979, testifies the unwavering anchorage of the Sahrawi tribes in the foundation of national identity and unity, he continued.

Today, after 64 years of the speech of M'hamid El-Ghizlane, 46 years after the launch of the Green March and 43 years after the recovery of Oued Eddahab, Morocco lives at the pace of a process of significant and sustained development, he noted.

Mr. El Ktiri noted that the process of preservation and consecration of territorial unity has continued, with determination and conviction, under the enlightened leadership of HM King Mohammed VI who surrounds with His High solicitude the inhabitants of the southern provinces.

As part of the High Solicitude of HM the King to the family of the resistance and the liberation army, five former resistance fighters and members of the liberation army have been decorated with Royal Wissams.

A vibrant tribute was also paid to five former resistance fighters of the province, in recognition of the great sacrifices they have made in the service of the Nation.

Similarly, it was conducted the delivery of financial aid to 32 beneficiaries of the family of the resistance and liberation army and to beneficiaries.

The meeting was attended by the Wali of the region of Dakhla-Oued Eddahab, Lamine Benomar and the President of the Council of the region, El Khattat Yanja, as well as elected officials and members of the family of the Resistance.
