The Côte d'Ivoire reaffirmed, Thursday before the UN C24, its support for the Moroccan initiative of broad autonomy to reach a "negotiated and mutually acceptable political solution, based on realism" to the dispute over the Sahara.

"My country adheres to this compromise solution which is in accordance with international law, and the resolutions of the UN Security Council and the UN General Assembly", indicated the deputy permanent representative of Côte d'Ivoire to UN, ambassador Gbolié Désiré Wulfran Ipo, on the occasion of a C24 regional seminar held in Dominica.

The Ivorian representative seized this opportunity to note "the important efforts made by Morocco and the framework of its new development model for the Southern Provinces".

Côte d'Ivoire is delighted to see the socio-economic boom experienced by this region which is engaged in an inclusive, multi-sectoral and sustainable development process with a view to the empowerment of its inhabitants", noted the ambassador.

The Ivorian diplomat also noted "with satisfaction the substantial actions carried out by Morocco to promote human rights in the Sahara region as well as to fight against the Covid-19 pandemic, by promoting broad access of local populations to the vaccine against Covid-19".

For the representative of the Côte d'Ivoire, "all these sound and credible initiatives testify to the will of the Kingdom of Morocco to strengthen the broad political, economic and cultural autonomy that it grants to the Sahara region". He also praised Morocco's commitment to the political process held exclusively under the aegis of the UN to resolve the dispute in the Sahara.

In this regard, the Ambassador said that his country welcomes the progress made in the political process by former Personal Envoy of the Secretary General for the Sahara, Horst Kohler, whose determined commitment made it possible to hold two round-tables, respectively in December 2018 and March 2019 in Switzerland, with the participation of Algeria, Morocco, Mauritania and the "polisario".
