Khalihenna: Sahara will have a Moroccan autonomy

Chairman of the Royal Advisory Council for Saharan Affairs said that Morocco is working to establish a Moroccan autonomy in the Sahara inspired by ohter experiences. In an interview published last Monday by L'Evenement Nigerian weekly , he added that referundum is not workable and not possible.

According to Mr. Ould Errachid, organizing "genuine referendum" for Saharan tribes "requires change the borders of Morocco, Algeria, Mali, Mauritania" and return to "pre-colonial borders." Mr. Khalihenna Ould Errachid said that this is the reason why the United Nations “buried Baker Plan" which was born dead.

He pointed out that what matters currently is negotiating on the basis of autonomy, calling Algeria to contribute " in the dialogue with our brothers" who live "in Tindouf or Algiers." He regretted the fact that the Sahara conflict, which is the product of the Cold War still exists.

He said: "The Soviet Union disappeared, and democracy has appeared in Africa but the 'Polisario Front,' On the other hand, is still as it is, its leaders are the same people and their camps are managed the same way: we should change what happened," and apply "autonomy within Morocco," which will provide "real authority and real entity.
