France is by Morocco's side, its "best ally" in Africa, in demandind free movement in El Guerguarat, said on Friday, Christian Cambon, President of the Commission of Foreign Affairs, Defense and Armed Forces at the French Senate.

"France is by Morocco's side to demand free movement at El Guerguarat (Mauritanian border) and to maintain the ceasefire with the Polisario. Morocco is France's best ally in Africa," wrote Cambon in a Tweet after a meeting with the Moroccan Ambassador to France, Chakib Benmoussa.

Recently and while the tension was high in the buffer zone of El Guerguarat, blocked by Polisario militias, Cambon, also president of the France-Morocco interparliamentary friendship group at the Senate, had reiterated, on behalf of the group, its call "for a peaceful and negotiated solution (for the Sahara issue) under the aegis of the United Nations Security Council, inspired by the proposal of broad autonomy advocated by the Kingdom of Morocco".

"For 45 years, the Kingdom of Morocco has made huge efforts by investing in housing, health, education, economic activities and public facilities, as noted by the France-Morocco friendship group at the Senate after visiting the place (...) the civilian populations of this region need economic and social development in order to live in peace in this part of the world," he had said.
