The Moroccan people commemorate Friday the 41st anniversary of the recovery of the province of Wadi Eddahab, a glorious epic in the history of the Kingdom for the completion of its independence and territorial integrity and an opportunity to confirm the unwavering commitment of the Moroccan people to the Alawite throne as an expression of their constant mobilization in the service of the national cause.

On August 14, 1979, ulema, notables and tribal chiefs of the province of Oued Eddahab went the Royal Palace of Rabat to renew their oath of allegiance to the late SM Hassan II  thus renewing their history and reaffirming their attachment to their motherland.

By this solemn and highly patriotic act, the inhabitants of Oued Eddahab proved that they will never sell off their Moroccan identity by showing to the whole world that the Sahara has always been Moroccan and that it will remain so forever, despite the maneuvers of opponents.

It was a historic moment immortalized by the sppech in which the late Sovereign affirmed: "We have just received on this blessed day, your oath of allegiance, that we will preserve preciously, as a sacred deposit to honor this oath on our side, we also have a duty to guarantee your defense and your security and work relentlessly for your well-being, so be welcome, My dear sons in your homeland. May the Almighty bless us with by attaching the south of our country to homeland and restoring blood ties between people".

From our side, it is our duty to guarantee your defense and security and to work tirelessly for your well-being. My dear sons, you are welcome to your homeland. Let us thank the Almighty for having blessed Us with his blessings by connecting the South of Our country to its northern part and by restoring blood ties between its inhabitants”.

During this ceremony, the late SM Hassan II also distributed weapons to representatives of tribes, strong and symbolic gesture of the continuation of the struggle for the defense of territorial integrity and the establishment of security in the provinces recovered.

Few months later the architect of the Glorious Green March and the inhabitants of the province of Oued Eddahab met on the occasion of the historic visit by the late Sovereign to Dakhla.

This visit established the perfect symbiosis between the glorious Alawite Throne and the inhabitants of the southern provinces.

This unwavering bond, which constitutes the cement of the cohesion of the nation, has thwarted all maneuvers by the enemies of the territorial integrity of Morocco.

Since then, the Kingdom has worked for the economic and social promotion of its southern provinces, with a view to integrating them into the process of global and sustainable development.

Likewise, His Majesty King Mohammed VI pays particular attention to the southern provinces, ensuring an economic development and consolidating the national mobilization to thwart all the conspiracies of the enemies of the territorial integrity of Morocco.

41 years after the recovery of Oued Eddahab, efforts to develop this precious part have continued to make it a regional pole not only in relation to other regions of the country, but also in relation to Sahara and Sahel.

Since the recovery of the provinces of southern Morocco, major projects have been initiated in order to implement investment, development projects and programs at the economic, social, urban, cultural and human levels, supporting them through equipment and infrastructure capable of establishing a solid regional economy that creates jobs.

The new development model for the southern provinces, launched by His Majesty King Mohammed VI in Laâyoune on November 6, 2016, on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the Glorious Green March, is a new stage in the path of economic and social, cultural and environmental development.

In a statement, the High Commissioner for Former Resistance Fighters and Former Members of the Liberation Army said that the celebration of this anniversary is an opportunity to highlight many projects and development programs launched since the independence of the Kingdom with a view to promoting the national economy and establishing a society based on the principles of solidarity and social and territorial equity, while preserving the territorial integrity of the Kingdom.

The same source also emphasizes that despite the current economic situation, marked by the spread of the coronavirus, the High Commission wanted to commemorate this event, like other glorious national holidays, in particular through digital communication.
