The royal free pardon to 46 prisoners is "a wise initiative" that reflects the affection of King Mohammed VI to the sons of the southern provinces and "is meant to foster the lasting reconciliation between all the Sahrawis," said president of the Royal Advisory Council for Sahrawi Affairs (CORCAS), Khalihenna Ould Errachid

This serious, credible and transparent initiative "is part of the wise and clear-sighted policy H.M. the King initiated on March 25 in Laâyoune to lastingly reconcile the sons of the southern provinces with the administration," Ould Errachid told on Saturday the Moroccan regional TV of Laâyoune.

The wise policy is "to lastingly settle the Sahara issue in regard to all its political, economic, social and human rights aspects" and "to set the conditions to materialize the royal, historic and unique project regarding the autonomy of the southern provinces with the consensus of all the sons of the Sahara," Ould Errachid added.

"Through this act, the Sovereign wanted joy and happiness fill all the households and that these feelings be shared by all, not only those who benefited from the royal free pardon, but also those who are in the camps and are separated from their relatives," he went on to say.

Thousands of Sahrawis were lured into the Tindouf camps, south-western Algeria, from their home by the propaganda of the Algeria-backed "Polisario" that wanted to shore up its claim to separate the Moroccan southern provinces, known as the Sahara, from Morocco that retrieved them from Spanish rule in 1975 under the Madrid accords.

Ould Errachid said the King would like to see those in the camps enjoy the same freedom and that autonomy be the lasting solution that gets the adherence of all the Sahrawis.

This is a “historic project to build a new Morocco and the basis of democracy, freedom, dignity and participation of all,” he said stressing that “a page has been turned and another opened thanks to the blessed royal initiatives.”

CORCAS President also stressed the need to put an end “to the disagreements that divide our brothers and end up in no good,” adding that “we want to build, along with H.M. the King, the autonomy project with the cooperation and the agreement of all.”

Autonomy is the only project and political choice that satisfies all the parties, Ould Errachid underscored, assuring that by through the settlement of the Sahara issue, “we are setting sound bases for the building of the Arab Maghreb.”
