African countries which took part, on Monday in Marrakech, in the ministerial conference on African Union (AU) support for the UN political process on the regional dispute over the Moroccan Sahara, agreed to implement the "wise and concerted vision" of the heads of State and government, enshrined at the 31st AU Summit held in July 2018 in Nouakchott, which reaffirms the exclusivity of the UN in seeking a political solution to this issue.

the Final Declaration at the end of this conference of the representatives of the 37 countries present, coming from the five sub-regions of the continent, warmly commended the constructive initiative of the Kingdom of Morocco to convene this conference, which demonstrates its commitment to the implementation of Decision 693 adopted at the 31st AU Summit in Nouakchott, as well as the unanimous adoption of this Decision on the report of the chairperson of the AU Commission regarding the Sahara issue, that reaffirms the exclusivity of the United Nations as a framework to seek a political, mutually acceptable, realistic, pragmatic and lasting solution to the Sahara issue. Committed to the strategic choice of heads of States and governments to overcome the causes of division, cleavage and fragmentation that threaten the unity of the continent.

African countries also agreed to preserve the spirit and letter of Decision 693, the result of extensive consultations with the chairperson of the Commission and the subject of a healthy consensus of heads of States and governments, taking into account its founding role in restoring serenity in the AU's proceedings.

Furthermore, they praised the establishment, by the said Decision, of the AU Troika mechanism, composed of the outgoing, current and incoming presidents of the Union, as well as the chairperson of the AU Commission, to provide effective support to the efforts led by the United Nations, while reaffirming their unity around a constructive and effective implementation of the mandate of the AU Troika, which is to protect, support and preserve the integrity of the ongoing political process , within the exclusive framework of the United Nations, under the supervision of the Security Council and the auspices of the UN Secretary-General, with a view to achieving "a political, realistic, pragmatic and lasting solution to the Sahara issue based on compromise".

They also agreed to support the specific mandate conferred by Decision 693 on the AU Troika, to the exclusion of any body of the Union at any level, in order to monitor developments in the political process within the United Nations framework on the Sahara issue, stressing that Troika's support for the UN political process should be protected from any interference or non-consensual action likely to compete with the efforts of the UN Secretary-General and his Personal Envoy, to compromise the cohesion of the Union or to develop a parallel process likely to foster division among its member States.
