The chairman of the Royal Advisory Council for Saharan Affairs, Khalihenna Ould Errachid, met on Monday, February 12, 2018, with a high-level delegation representing the Senate of the Republic of Uruguay which is paying an official visit to the Kingdom  February 8 through 13.


The meeting with the delegation headed by Otegui Vega Marcos Javier, member of the Senate for the party in power, focused on the Moroccan Sahara, which the Uruguayan delegation visited, to learn about the major projects opened in this region.


The Uruguayan delegation visited the city of Laayoune where it met with the President of the Municipal Council Sidi Hamdi Ould Errachid to learn about the region and extent of the effort made by Morocco to ensure overall development for the region.


The program of the Uruguayan parliamentary delegation includes talks with several government and parliamentary officials, as well as with regional elected representatives of national institutions in Rabat, Casablanca and southern provinces.


The Uruguayan delegation, which represents three of the most important parties in Uruguay, includes, besides its president, Luis Alberto Heber, the oldest of the Uruguayan parliamentarians (37 years) and member of the Senate for 28 years and former President of the Chamber of Deputies, who represents the National Opposition Party.


The delegation also includes José Amortin Batlle, member of the Senate for the opposition "Colorado" Party, who happens to be the grandson and nephew of two former Presidents of the Republic of Uruguay.


The current visit of the Uruguayan parliamentary delegation aims at strengthening the friendly relations between the Kingdom of Morocco and  Republic of Uruguay by consolidating parliamentary and institutional partnership between the two countries and setting up mechanisms for cooperation in various areas of bilateral interest.


Dr. Maouelainin Ben Khallihenna Maouelainin, CORCAS Secretary General and Ahmed Lakhrif, CORCAS and House of Councilors member took part in this meeting.
