The Ivory Coast government declared "that it appreciates at its true worth» the Moroccan initiative to negotiate an autonomy statute in the Sahara.


"The government of the Ivory Coast appreciated at its true worth the Moroccan initiative to negotiate an autonomy statute in the Sahara region and expresses satisfaction over the adoption on April 30, 2007 by the Security Council of the 1754 Resolution ", according to a note sent to the Moroccan embassy in Abidjan from the Ivorian ministry of Foreign Affairs.


“The Ivory Coast will continue to support, in line with the principles and ideals of the UN Charter, all initiatives likely to lead to a peaceful, durable and mutually acceptable solution "to the Sahara issue, according to the same source.


This support to the Moroccan autonomy project was also confirmed during a recent meeting by the Ivorian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Youssouf Bakayoko, with the Moroccan ambassador in Ivory Coast, Mr. Hassan Bennani

Several governmental and opposition personalities in Ivory Coast expressed their total support to the Moroccan initiative which aims at finding a political and negotiated solution to the Sahara issue.
